Has ADHD been on your mind?

Maybe you’ve already been diagnosed with ADHD. Or maybe you’ve been watching videos and reading about ADHD online and thinking, “Hmm… that sounds a lot like me.”

Sound familiar?

Maybe you’re also noticing…

  • That you’re tired, and feel like you’re always behind and struggling to catch up.

  • That life seems harder than it should be, and you’re wondering: why do things seem easier for everyone else?

  • That you simultaneously feel like you’re too much and not enough.

Therapy for ADHD can help.

MY APPROACH TO THERAPY FOR ADHD

Wondering what it might be like to feel like your life is manageable? Maybe even…joyful? While this might feel out of reach, I’m here to tell you: it is possible.

I take a Neurodivergent-Affirming approach to therapy for ADHD. What does this mean? It might be helpful to check in about terms first:

Neurodiversity is the concept that there exist different neurotypes, or different ways that our brains function. Neurotypical describes “typical” neurological development and functioning, while neurodivergent is an umbrella term that encapsulates all other neurotypes, including those we’re born with - like ADHD, Autism, BiPolar, Dyslexia - and those that are acquired - like PTSD and Traumatic Brain Injuries (TBI).

To be Neurodivergent-Affirming means that I recognize and support your neurotype, and view it as a unique part of you rather than a “disorder” or something that is “wrong” with you. There is nothing wrong with being neurodivergent! However, it can be difficult to function in a world designed for neurotypical people if you’re neurodivergent. I’m neurodivergent too (ADHD!), and while no two people are the same, I’m familiar with the challenges that often come with navigating our neurotypically-designed world as a neurodivergent person. We’ll work with your mind and body’s natural tendencies and to help you live life in a way that works for you, rather than trying to change you to conform to neurotypical standards.

In addition to helping people navigate challenges related to ADHD, I enjoy supporting people with other types of neurodivergence, including Autism, AuDHD (Autism+ADHD), PTSD, and those who are highly sensitive. I also specialize in helping adults overcome past abuse and relational trauma, or trauma that arises out of relationships with others. I am LGBTQIA+ affirming and am honored to support others while they explore their identities. I work with adults of all genders, races, cultures, and orientations.

If you’re looking for a Neurodivergent-Affirming therapist who will help you identify your unique strengths and needs, and work with them to build a life you love, I’d be happy to talk with you to see if we’re a good fit.

If so, we’ll work together to help you build hope, confidence, and a life that feels manageable, authentic, meaningful, and fulfilling.

  • Yes, we can work together regardless of whether you have a diagnosis. I also recognize self-diagnosis as valid and enjoy working with people who are curious about themselves in general.

  • Yes, I enjoy working with Autistic people as well those who are AuDHD (Autistic+ADHD). I recognize self-diagnosis as valid, and also enjoy working with people who aren’t sure but might be curious.

  • While many people with ADHD might have similar experiences, no two people are the same. With this in mind, our work together will be tailored specifically to you.

We’ll start by talking about your history, how you’re doing now, and what you want to get out of our time together. From there, we’ll come up with a plan to help you get to where you want to be and meet weekly or biweekly to help you get there. Sessions might consist of identifying what’s stressful in your life and helping you work through challenges in a way that feels supportive and aligned with your values. We might work on building specific skills that help you manage stress, intense emotions, or organize your life. Our time together might also include other types of therapy, like EMDR and the Flash technique, which can help you gain insight and minimize distress regarding upsetting things you’ve experienced or are worried about in the future.

  • How long you’re in therapy will depend on your past experiences, how you’re doing now, and what you want to get out of out time together. Some people choose to work with me for several months, while others work with me for more than a year. Everyone is different, and ultimately you will decide how long you want to be in therapy.

  • Before we begin working together, we’ll start with an initial consultation to make sure that what I offer will be a good fit for you. If we decide to work together, we’ll check in throughout the process to ensure you’re feeling supported and like you’re making progress toward your goals. If you end up feeling like we’re not good fit or you’re not getting what you want out of therapy, I can help you connect with another therapist who might be a better fit.

  • To get started, you can click here to schedule an initial consultation. During our consultation, we’ll talk about what’s led you to seek therapy, what you’d like to get out of our work together, and I’ll answer any questions you’ll have. If it seems like we’ll be a good fit, you’ll have the option to schedule your first session at that time. If we’re not a great fit, I can refer you to another therapist in my network. Or if you need time to think about things, that’s ok too!
